AIWC is a 10-day, overnight, intensive wrestling camp focused on building a warrior mindset. AIWC will provide an intense training environment that will teach wrestlers how to properly train, feed their bodies, and cope with stress. By repeatedly practicing challenging, wrestling-specific situations, AIWC will teach wrestlers how to control their body’s reaction to stressors, tap into their reservoir of resolve and resiliency, and develop a warrior mentality so they are prepared to compete at the highest levels.
The Agoge was a training and education program for young boys in ancient Sparta. It was designed to produce physically and mentally tough warriors, who would defend the city-state in times of war. The Agoge was a rigorous program that lasted for several years and included a wide range of physical, mental, and emotional challenges. The program was designed to foster self-discipline, courage, endurance, and loyalty in its participants. The Agoge is widely regarded as one of the most demanding and comprehensive training programs in history.
Wrestling is a physically demanding sport that requires a high degree of mental toughness. It is a sport that tests the strength, skill, and endurance of its participants. Wrestlers must be mentally strong and able to overcome physical pain, fatigue, and adversity. Wrestling requires its participants to be able to endure the hardships of training, maintain their focus and concentration during competition, and to be able to recover quickly from setbacks.
The similarities between the Agoge and wrestling are unmistakable. Both require participants to be mentally tough and be able to endure the challenges of training and competition. The Agoge was designed to produce warriors who could withstand the hardships of battle and wrestling is designed to produce athletes who can withstand the challenges of competition. Wrestling, like the Agoge, requires participants to have a strong will, to be able to push themselves to their limits, and to overcome their body's stress response.
In many ways, wrestling can be seen as a modern-day equivalent of the Agoge. The mental toughness that is required to be successful in wrestling is similar to the mental toughness that was required of the warriors of ancient Sparta.
“Demetrios is an incredible coach! He exemplifies and instills dedication, confidence, and respect into all his wrestlers (including two of my children). His extensive knowledge on the mat and coaching experience allows him to run a tight and effective practice.”
"My daughter decided to wrestle entering her freshman year of high school. She joined the wrestling team and was one of two girls on the team with forty boys. It was quite intimidating and overwhelming. Coach Demetrios immediately accepted Sawyer on the team and treated her as a normal member of the team. He was supportive and tough on her, which is what she wanted and needed. She worked with him throughout the four years of high school. She learned so much and he helped her fall in love with the sport of wrestling. Five years later she is now in her second year of college and wrestles for her college’s women’s wrestling team. Coach Demetrios never wavered in his support in her.”
"I would highly recommend training with Coach Demetri. My boys have trained under him for years. He is an amazing coach that has the ability to build strong, lasting relationships with his wrestlers! My boys have learned a great deal from him, and I know anyone attending this camp will as well."
